Ask and Answer cards are developed to find out the experiences of people with moderate dementia, finding out how person centred a care setting is for people based on evidence of what matters most to people when receiving care. It helps to measure the quality of care and has flexible uses for carers, families and management to measure wellbeing and the quality of care.

Research shows that people with cognitive difficulties do not always discriminate facial expressions and need the further help of shape and colour discrimination. The person does not have to name an object but understand what it represents in their life. Combining visual, tactile and verbal provides greater stimulus than any one of them on their own (Talking Mats).
